John  Nanovsky
 

Dr. John Nanovsky, 82, of Shippenville, a retired director of College Student Centers, died on Jan. 18, 1998.

Nanovsky joined Clarion State College in 1967 as director of housing. While in this position he was instrumental in the renovation of Harvey Gymnasium into the first student center for Clarion State College, following the completion of Tippen Gymnasium. With the completion of the Riemer Student Center he was named director of college student centers. He was instrumental in bringing about several building and program changes in the centers to provide for improved leisure-time programming and activities for the student body.

His other duties included working closely with the various committees of the Centers Board, and the music, drama, and speech communication areas for promoting a strong artist series in Marwick-Boyd Auditorium. He was the organizer and president of the Quadco Community Concert Series and coordinated the concert series in Marwick-Boyd Auditorium.

Nanovsky was a member of the faculty of Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, ILL, and Kentucky Wesleyan College and for 11 years was an administrator at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN. He also coached football and basketball at Eastern Illinois and Kentucky Wesleyan.

While residing in Clarion, he was a member of the Clarion Hospital Board of Directors, was active on several committees of the First Methodist Church of Clarion, the Community Chorus, was a member of the Clarion Chamber of Commerce, and worked on the annual Autumn Leaf Festival committees.
 

He was married in 1944 to Nancy Tugwell, who survives.
